When you turn on solar optimisation, you will be prompted to enter a selection of information about your panels and your home. The Passiv Smart Thermostat uses this information to calculate how much excess solar generation is available for use by the heat pump. Note that this setting should only be enabled if you have solar panels installed on your roof.
System capacity
Your system capacity is the total capacity for generation of your solar panels. This can be input as either a specific kWp value (i.e. the total kW your system can generate at peak capacity) or as the number of panels installed (the Passiv Smart Thermostat will then use an average capacity for each individual panel). You should be able to find the specific kWp value on any paperwork provided on your solar installation, otherwise, number of panels will still provide plenty of information for solar optimisation to function.
Panel direction
Your panel direction indicates which way your solar panels face on your roof, and can be input as a cardinal direction. If you have panels pointing in multiple directions, please indicate the best average of those panels. This information is used to determine how much sunlight your panels will be receiving at different times of year and day, in conjunction with weather data.
Number of bedrooms
The number of bedrooms in your property is used to estimate your baseload consumption in the home. This is needed to determine how much of your solar generation is excess, i.e., to prevent the heat pump utilising solar-generated electricity which is already being used by other devices.
