What is the Passiv Smart Thermostat?
The Passiv Smart Thermostat is a smart thermostat designed specifically for heat pumps.
The Passiv Smart Thermostat can help you to get the most from your heat pump.
Use the free Passiv app to control your heating and hot water from anywhere or use the Passiv Thermostat and Programmer for complete in-home control. By learning how your home heats up and cools down and optimising your heat pump to local weather forecasts, the Passiv Smart Thermostat makes keeping comfortable simple.
It can also reduce your heating bills by optimising to time-of-use tariffs and making the most of your solar panels.

Control your heat pump with the Passiv app
The Passiv app is the easiest way to control your heating and hot water and can unlock the best bill savings.
In order to use the app, you will need to create a Passiv account and associate it with your Passiv Smart Thermostat.
To do this, your home will need to have a broadband connection and your Passiv Hub will need to be connected to your broadband router using the supplied ethernet cable. The Passiv Hub will usually be located close to your broadband router.
You’ll also need to be at home as you will have to scan a QR code (or enter a code) displayed on your Programmer.
The Passiv app will guide you through the process of setting up the Passiv Smart Thermostat and controlling your heating and hot water.
The Passiv Smart Thermostat will still optimise your heating whether or not it is connected to the internet. You only need to connect your Hub to your router in order to use the Passiv app, enabling bill savings through ecoHeat and allowing you to monitor your heat pump’s energy consumption.
How to use the Passiv Thermostat
Your home will have one or two wall-mounted Passiv Thermostats depending on how many heating zones you have. These are used to control the temperature in your home.
Press any button to wake the Thermostat. The screen will display the current temperature. The text below explains what the Passiv Smart Thermostat is currently doing and will change according to your heating schedule. For example, ‘Heating to 20.0° until 19:00’.
A further button press will display the target or setpoint temperature. Use the Up and Down buttons to change the target temperature. This target temperature will remain until the start of your next heating period. To cancel a setpoint change and return to your heating schedule, hold down the Centre button and select ‘Resume schedule’.
Your Thermostat may be battery-powered. Battery-powered thermostats have a Battery status icon visible in the top right of the screen as shown in the image on page 6. When the Thermostat is out of battery, the screen will turn off, and a red LED on the top right of the device will begin to flash. To recharge the Thermostat, hold the bottom edge of the device, and lift it gently away from the wall. Plug a USB-C cable into the bottom of the Thermostat to recharge the battery.
Your heating will not function correctly until the Thermostat has finished charging and is returned to its wall mount.
If it is not battery-powered, the screen will dim when not in use. You can adjust this screen brightness by holding down the Centre button and selecting ‘Standby brightness’.
How to use the Passiv Programmer
Your home will have a Passiv Programmer. The Programmer is used to manage your heating and hot water schedules and to boost your hot water.
Press any button to wake the Programmer. The screen will display a summary of your heating and hot water including an estimate of how much hot water you have in your hot water tank and the current temperature in each heating zone.
Pressing the centre button will display the main menu. Navigate through the main menu using the Up and Down buttons. Press the Centre button to select an item and the Back button to return to the previous menu.
Selecting ‘Hot water boost’ will tell the Passiv Smart Thermostat to top-up your hot water tank by boosting your hot water for one hour. You can cancel this by selecting ‘Cancel hot water boost?’.
Selecting ‘Schedules’ allows you to edit your heating and hot water schedules. A schedule tells the Passiv Smart Thermostat when to heat your home and hot water.
In each schedule, you can create up to six separate heating periods for each day of the week. You can also copy your schedule from one day to another or, if you have two heating zones, from one zone to another.
Don’t forget, the Passiv app is the easiest way to control your heating and hot water and can be used alongside the Passiv Thermostat and Programmer to get the most from your heat pump. Scan the QR code on page 5 to download the Pasiv app.
